On October 16th, the German Canadian Business Association (GCBA) hosted an insightful Zoom presentation focused on the upcoming British Columbia election campaign. This exclusive event featured Jon Roe, Research Associate at the Angus Reid Institute (“Angus Reid”), who provided valuable perspectives on the political landscape leading up to the election.
Our president, Andrea Basche, opened the meeting by warmly welcoming participants and introducing Angus Reid, a trusted name in polling and data analysis. She also highlighted the GCBA’s mission to foster informed discussions on topics relevant to the business community and beyond.
Jon Roe presented Angus Reid’s latest findings on the BC election campaign, offering a data-driven overview of how the major parties are performing and how the public views key candidates such as Premier David Eby (NDP), John Rustad (BC Conservatives), and Sonia Furstenau (BC Greens). The presentation covered a wide range of issues driving voter concerns, including healthcare, housing, the environment, and economic challenges like the cost-of-living crisis.
The session revealed some intriguing insights into the differing concerns of BC residents, especially when broken down by gender and age. For instance, men and women showed varied focuses on specific issues, and there were distinct trends among younger and older voters, particularly regarding housing affordability and healthcare access.
During the lively Q&A session that followed, participants expressed strong interest in further detailed surveys on healthcare and other issues and asked about further areas that continue to dominate public discourse not only in BC. Jon’s answers provided deeper insights into how these critical issues are shaping voter sentiment and party performance in the upcoming election.
The presentation was highly informative, highlighting the many facets of BC residents’ concerns as the election approaches. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Angus Reid Institute and Jon Roe for leading such an engaging and thought-provoking session. His expert analysis shed light on key trends and gave attendees a valuable understanding of what to expect in this important election.
Thank you to all who attended and participated in the Q&A, making this event a success. We look forward to hosting more informative discussions as we continue to bring timely and relevant topics to the GCBA community!
