“An Invitation to Experience Bach’s Mass in B Minor”
The United Voices Choir (UVC) in Vancouver, BC, is an inclusive, auditioned choir focusing on major choral works with orchestras and soloists. Directed by Dr. Greg Caisley, they have performed pieces by composers like Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Vivaldi, and more. In fall 2022, they presented Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem and Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42, followed by Cherubini’s Requiem in c and Rheinberger’s Mass in C in spring 2023. Their Christmas 2023 performance featured Handel’s Messiah, and they are excited to perform Bach’s Mass in B Minor in 2024.
UVC comprises about 60 members, from young adults to retirees, with varying musical skills. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings, September through May, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Their unique draw is performing with professional orchestras and soloists, creating an unparalleled experience for choral singers.
The choir is eager to present Bach’s Mass in B Minor, a work featuring powerful choruses, complex fugues, elegant solos, and operatic duets. This masterpiece, crafted by Bach at the peak of his genius, is a must-hear for music lovers.
Professional soloists joining the performance include Dory Hayley (soprano 1), Jillian Tam (soprano 2), Jonathan Michel (tenor), Erik Kallo (countertenor), and David Rosborough (bass).
