April 28th, 2024 was a momentous day for North Shore Rescue – the official opening of The Arnold Wallner SAR base at Capilano Gate (just inside the watershed gate at Cleveland Dam).”

The Northshore Search and Rescue team celebrated the grand opening of a new building at Hoover Dam Capilano. The event, which took place on April 28, was a testament to the enduring spirit of cooperation and goodwill that transcends borders.

One of the key figures behind this partnership is Arnold Wallner, an 87-year-old philanthropist, and sponsor of the North Shore Search and Rescue who established exchange and collaboration with “Oberau” Garmisch on mountain search and rescue. Mr. Wallner’s commitment to supporting search and rescue efforts has been instrumental in fostering international cooperation in this vital field. The ”Oberauer” congratulated with a traditional hand-carved climber on a rope for the opening of the new building. Their gesture symbolizes the strong bond and mutual respect between the two teams, highlighting the positive outcomes that can result from cross-cultural partnerships.

Arnold Wallner was also a longtime member of the German Canadian Business Association (GCBA) and served on its board in former times. In honour of his commitment, the event was attended by members of the GCBA, including some of the board members and the new president Andrea Basche. Their presence underscored the importance of business associations in fostering meaningful partnerships that benefit communities on both sides of the globe.

As we celebrate this milestone in search and rescue efforts, we are reminded of the power of collaboration and the positive impact it can have on communities worldwide. We look forward to seeing the continued success of this partnership and the lifesaving work it enables.
