North Shore Rescue Grand Opening: The Arnold Wallner SAR Base
April 28th, 2024, was a momentous day for North Shore Rescue with the official opening of The Arnold Wallner SAR base at Capilano Gate (just inside the watershed gate at Cleveland Dam). The North Shore Rescue Grand Opening celebrated the enduring spirit of cooperation and goodwill that transcends borders.
The North Shore Search and Rescue team marked the grand opening of a new building at Hoover Dam Capilano. The event showcased the importance of partnerships in search and rescue efforts. This milestone emphasizes the collaboration that strengthens global and local communities.

The Role of Arnold Wallner in Building Partnerships
One of the key figures behind this partnership is Arnold Wallner, an 87-year-old philanthropist and sponsor of North Shore Rescue. His contributions established international collaboration with “Oberau” Garmisch on mountain search and rescue operations.
Mr. Wallner’s dedication has been instrumental in fostering cooperation in this vital field. To celebrate the base’s opening, the “Oberauer” team presented a traditional hand-carved climber on a rope. This heartfelt gesture symbolizes the strong bond and mutual respect between the two teams. It also highlights the positive results of cross-cultural partnerships.

GCBA’s Involvement and Recognition
Arnold Wallner was a longtime member of the German Canadian Business Association (GCBA) and even served on its board in the past. To honour his contributions, members of the GCBA, including board members and the new president Andrea Basche, attended the event. Their presence highlighted how business associations play a key role in building meaningful global partnerships that benefit communities on both sides of the globe.
The Impact of Collaboration
This grand opening reminds us of the power of collaboration and its ability to make a positive impact on communities worldwide. Partnerships like these enable lifesaving work and demonstrate the value of cross-border cooperation. We look forward to the continued success of North Shore Rescue’s efforts.
